This hotel was very good. The staff personnel are pretty helpful and the place is kept clean. The breakfast buffet in the mornings is quite big and delicious, if you chose to eat in the hotel. I would recommend this hotel.
The sawadee website was quite helpful and found better rates than if we were to book the hotel myself. Very easy to use and the responses were faster than I expected as they say it may take 24hrs.

We can t say enough good things about the Empress hotel. This was our first visit to Thailand and to Chiang Mai, so we were starting from scratch. We read the other great reviews about the Empress hotel and decided to give it a try. This was definitely the best hotel we stayed in on our trip--and it was such a great value! We traveled with our 3 children and stayed in two rooms. One had three real single-sized beds (not a rollaway)and the other was next door and had a king size bed. The rooms were very clean, spacious and well decorated. Breakfast was included and was very nice! You have to pay to use the internet there, but the clock runs for actual time used, not time on the clock. If we travel to Chaing Mai again (and I hope we will--we loved it!) we will definitely stay at the Empress Hotel again. We re already recommending it to all our friends!
No problems whatsoever. This was a great way to book a room.

Looking back on three weeks in Thailand I can say that the Empress was the best hotel we stayed in so far. The staff were nice and helpful, the breakfast was very good and the room was great - for 1200 bat a night we got a very clean, very convenient room with a very good bath room which had a lovely bath (which is not trivail in Thailand - more expensive hotels we stayed in had just a shower and weren t half as clean). If I ever get back to Chang Mai, I would book the empress in a heart beat.

We were collected from Chiang Mai airport by the hotel shuttle and were upgraded on arrival from run of house to a deluxe room which was superb. The whole experience at the Empress was excellent.Staff were lovely, breakfast was a banquet and the location would be difficult to beat. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the night markets and bazaars and has a great selection of restaurants. We will stay there again next time we visit Chiang Mai.
As ever sawadee provided first class arrangements.

A very nice hotel in Chiang Mai, not far away from the night bazzar. The rooms are clean and good, though the noise of toilet wash can be heard clearly from the ajacent room. anyway, it worth the price.
Very good and convinient.

I spent a week at this hotel and would highly recommend it. The staff are very polite and helpful. The room was comfortable and we enjoyed several swims in the crystal clear pool. Breakfast was included in the tariff - great variety of food and always fresh.

The Empress hotel was clean and well maintained. We had 2 very nice rooms and the hotel staff were very polite and helpful. The Italian restaurant is superb and the breakfast buffet very palatable. Swimming pool is small but well maintained. Don t expect to be able to use the gym (no air conditioning and a wall of glass window which exacerbated the heat). Equipment pretty run down.
Some glitchon our booking for Empress hotel. Web request was not responded to and I had to chase 2 for confirmation. Once contact made the service worked well (as it did for a second hotel booking I made the same time).

The Empress is a very good hotel. The Empress staff is friendly and 100 %professional. We stayed for more than 1 week and got automatically un upgrate to LONGSTAY-GUESTS which meant, lots of goodies and discounts. This is the third time we stayed there and will not be our last one. Note: Our room was complete renewed, everything, i mean everything, worked out fine.
as always - for years - reliable and good.

Very nice hotel and we have a pleasant stay. We booked the deluxe room for 4 nights, the room is renovated just recently, and every thing is pretty new. Breakfast fine.Good location, close to night bezzar only 10 minutes walk, which the distance is good to avoid noisy market. Nice cafe around the hotel area. I will stay there again in next trip to ChiangMai.

I travel to Chiang Mai regularly and have for over 10 years and generally stop at the Empress staing there usually for 10 days or more. I have on occasions sampled other hotels but next trip returned to the Empress. Value for money I think it is the best in Chiang Mai. The rooms are a reasonable size well appointed and are kept very clean. Resterants are good and the breakfast is one of the best I have had in Thailand, better even than most hotels I have stayed in, even ones which have a higher star rating. The staff are all very efficient friendly and helpfull creating the very pleasant atmosphere the hotel has.
This is the first time I have used Sawadee and I am impressed. Will certainly use again.

Empress Hotel, Chang Klan
Our stay at The Empress was really enjoyable. The lobby area is beautiful and the staff were very helpful. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean and the bathrooms excellent. Housekeeping staff were great and the breakfasts were some of the best that we have had in Thailand with a great selection of Western and Thai foods. There is a good sized swimming pooland bar area - there were some repairs happening around the pool during our stay however this wasn t disruptive. If you re looking for a great Thai food experience, try The Hug Restaurant which is only about 300m to the left of the Empress on the main road - fantastic!
Easy booking and very efficient - Thank you.

Excellent Value for an older but upscale hotel in Chiang Mai. Great pool and poolside bar. Exercise room is average by Western standards but pretty good for Thailand. Breakfast is good for Western food but poor for Thai food. Located a 5 minute tuk tuk ride from the old city, 10 minutes to the Riverside restaurants like Good View. New tower being built in front of this hotel but the noise didn t bother us. Overall, for 1,500 baht a night, good value for a hotel with AC, decent breakfast and full amenities.
Worked well so long as you plans are definite. Sawadee.com ran out of Superior rooms for our dates so I booked remainder of our stay at same hotel on Asiarooms.com. That service is okay too, but you have to pay when you book, not knowing if they will confirm your requested room or not.

Again at the Empress in Chiang Mai, I do like the hotel very much because of their friendlyness and the ood value I got for the prize paid. The room was clean and not too big, but who cares when you spend every day 18 hours outside exploring wonderfull Norththailand..... Urs S., Switzerland

the pictures online for this hotel are somewhat decieving. Because of the low season this room was only 1250 baht ($30 USD). I thought since it was listed at about $50-60 USD during high season that it would be decent, I was wrong. Very dated and the rooms are dark and in drastic need of an update. The bathrooms have not been refurbished in 20-30 years so they do not appear very clean. I would put this hotel in the category of a very old Best Western in the US. The only redeeming quality of this hotel was the breakfast had many options. If I ever return to Chang Mai, I will stay at the Sheraton as there are not many other choices that are nice.

The hotel was clean and well kept, with an impressive reception area. Not the most luxurious hotel I have ever stayed in but very good for the price and a decent sized room. We did have an issue with the electricity in our room on the first night but it was sorted out fairly speedily, with a large amount of apologies for the inconvenience! The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The booking service from sawadee if very good. Easy and speedy, would definitely use this website again.

My husband and I spent four nights at the Empress Hotel in Chiang Mai in June, 2005. For a very reasonable price, we had a good-sized room with a king-sized bed and all the usual amenities including a swimming pool. In addition, there was a plate of Thai fruit in the room on our arrival, new bottles of water every day (a necessity in Thailand), an extensive breakfast buffet including both Thai foods and more Western ones, and a coverlet on the bed by day and turndown service with a rosebud on the pillows by night. There is a Chinese restaurant and a French one on site in addition to the restaurant that provided the breakfast buffet, buffets for other meals and a la carte service,. We enjoyed the all-you-can-eat dim sum lunch at the Chinese restaurant and had two very good meals at the French restaurant. One of the highlights of our trip was the tableside presentation of our “Café Diablo” at the French restaurant. The Night Market is an easy “tuk-tuk” ride away, one can obtain a massage or a session of foot reflexology either next to the pool or in one’s room, and there are travel agents available on the premises to arrange tours of the different sights in the area. If we return to Chiang Mai, we will certainly stay at the Empress Hotel again.

My wife and I really like the Empress. In international Chiang Mai it still feels very Thai. The service is great, the staff friendly and efficient. We have stayed there a few times, and have had our room upgraded each time. When in Chiang Mai, stay at the Empress... I think you will be pleased!
Sawasdee has a great booking service. We have used them for several hotels on this and other trips. They seem to be able to get rooms when other booking services fail. Also, they have very competitive prices.

The Empress was very good for the price, especially the breakfast buffet. The beds were a little hard, even for Thailand. The staff was reasonable.

The Empress hotel is one of the better class in Chang Mai with good clean rooms and friendly helpful staff. The breakfast is a bit samey but a reasonable selection. The description of walking times on their web site is a bit optomistic but there are Tuk Tuks (3 seater open taxi based on a motorcycle) available and wil take you most places quite cheaply. The hotel has an executive level which may well be worth trying and is is definately worth asking for a no smoking room if you are a non smoker.
